Expenses Paid Scholarships for Summer Program

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT) has offered WVU three expenses-paid scholarships to send students to a two-week cultural exchange program on their campus in Xuzhou, China. This program is coordinated at WVU by the US-China Energy Center (USCEC).
CUMT will welcome a mix of students from over 15 international universities to study (in English) and interact with CUMT students and professors on topics that include:
- Science, Engineering, and Safety related to Green Energy
- Humanities and Social Science associated with History, Policy, and the Chinese Economy
- Chinese Culture and Chinese Language
Participation in the CUMT Summer Program is open to WVU students who are upper-level undergraduate students and graduate students who wish to learn more about China, its economy, and international concerns about energy. It is not necessary to understand Chinese, but WVU students who are studying Chinese will have an opportunity to interact with fellow students who wish to learn English.
Scholarships include full costs for travel within China, tuition for courses, room and board, and charges for field trips and visiting cultural areas. Students are required to arrive at Beijing International Airport on Friday June 14 for transportation to Xuzhou and will be taken to Shanghai International Airport for departure on Sunday June 30. West Virginia University will provide financial assistance to partially defray travel costs to and from China. The USCEC will provide technical assistance with CUMT applications and obtaining visas.
